External Hard Drive Cannot Be Mounted?
I just purchased a freeagent go 500gb and tried plugging it into my powerbook g4. it was detected but i tried to mount it and failed. i then unplugged the external hdd.
now i plug it into my mac and it does not detect the drive! here is what is written in the log.
Mount of “disk1s1” failed
Verify and Repair disk “disk1s1”
** /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix has been disabled because of volume corruption issues.
** If you still want to try fixing your volume, use /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix from the command line..
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
Disk Utility stopped repairing “disk1s1” because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 non HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

i then reformatted the drive on my windows to ntfs (it came pre-formatted in ntfs). i plugged it in but the same thing still happens! can anyone help me!

Could you give me the output written in /var/log/ntfs-3g_util.log ?
If there is no such log file you may have to turn on debug logging and repeat your attempted mount to get any resonable output. This can be done with a script located in the Tools folder in the .dmg disk image that you used to install NTFS-3G.

oh i checked the log from disk utility again. the got that message the first time i detected the drive and tried to mount it.
now i plug the drive into my mac and there is totally no detection of it. it just says disk utility started. the drive runs fine on my windows pc..
as to how i get the log file, i just type in the /var.. into terminal? i have already enabled debugging

You can type:
cat /var/log/ntfs-3g_util.log

If no such log file appears, even after enabling debug logging, then NTFS-3G apparently never comes in contact with your NTFS drive, and your problem is not NTFS-3G related at all.
This seems to be confirmed by the fact that you don't even see your drive in Disk Utility.. so you should complain to Apple or the manufacturer of your USB hard drive.
